4 Things to Bring for a Stress-Free Family Session
I am a dad of two kids, so I know a thing or two about preparing for a couple hours out with them. I've never had an experience where extra preparation HASN'T helped make our time together a lot smoother. A lot of you more experienced parents and guardians probably already know this. But when you're thinking about preparing for your family session, there are a couple of really important items that you're likely not going to want to forget.

Bring the Right Snacks
Snacks are one thing, but not all snacks are created equal on photo day. In general, I find it best to avoid most anything wet, sticky, greasy, or in other ways hard to manage. We're looking to avoid anything that gets stuck on hands and mouths, shows up in teeth, stains or sticks to clothing; that sort of thing.
My ultimate recommendation: Apple sauce pouches! Easily contained, quick to consume, and easy enough to clean off if it happens to get on skin or clothing.
The Ultimate Cleaning Tool
I'm a big fan of disposable baby wipes. They can clean just about anything off of skin and in a pinch can get some emergency cleaning to clothes or even hair. The sensitive ones are the best because you can be a bit more forceful for those really stubborn food smudges without leaving the skin too red and patchy.
This is not just for the kids, either!

Backups Save Sessions
I think this one can sort of be a sleeper savior. Often we just grab the kids bag on the way out with all our standard day gear, but make sure you replace those spare clothes with something you'd want them to take photos in. You never know what could happen in parks and paths; one moment you're watching kiddo have a blast, the next you've turned your head for two seconds and they've face planted into a mud pit.
Having a complete change into something similar to what you wanted them to wear in the photos can be a LIVE SAVER!
The Unsung Multi-tool
A cuddly blanket is so handy to have at a photo session. They can serve as distractions for the littles when you're trying to keep them entertained for a minute. They can be a cute prop, allowing the whole family to sit together on the ground and get some real comfy shots. They can even be an emergency umbrella for when nature decides to throw its own little tantrum.
